How long does it take to register a domain name?

There have been instances whereby we have received confirmation from InterNIC that a domain was successfully registered within an hour after the order was placed. However, on average, we receive internal confirmation from InterNIC within 24 hours.

Note that this does not mean that your domain registration will immediately be shown in the InterNIC public Whois database. This database is only updated on average three times a week: usually on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Domains that are registered in the interim will thus show up at the following update. So, do not panic if you registered a domain and the Whois database lists it as still being available the following couple of days.

In summary, it only takes a couple days for InterNIC to completely process a .COM, .NET, or .ORG domain registration. However,other domain types such as .EDU and .GOV can take somewhat longer (depending on InterNIC's currentworkload). If your domain is not registered within two weeks, please contact us or InterNIC.
