How long does it take to set up a Virtual
Host account?
Setting up a Virtual Host
account involves two simulteaneous, though
very different procedures. One is to
physically prepare the server for your site,
and the second is to make the site visible
and accessible worldwide under its domain
name.
To establish a Virtual Host
at BestPresence, you MUST have a
registered domain name stored in the whois
database maintained by InterNIC or the NIC
(Network Information Center) of the country
of your choice. In the latter case, you will
need to submit the domain name application
yourself as many countries have residency
requirements allowing only nationals and
domestic companies to register domain names.
However, we can provide you with all the
technical information your national NIC may
require.
If you don't have an
existing domain name and would like us to
register one for you at US InterNIC, it
usually takes us less than a day to submit
your domain name for registration.
Then it takes another
business day for InterNIC to enter your
domain name in the whois database. After
that, you need to wait for InterNIC to update
its root name servers. Finally, it will take
a day or two for your name to be picked up by
name servers around the world. Only
afterwards will your domain name be
considered visible worldwide.
Meanwhile, BestPresence
builds your account usually the same day upon
receiving your service request and in many
cases you will be able to upload your files
to your site the following morning. However,
your site will not yet be accessible to the
world under its domain name as the domain
registration is still being processed by your
NIC. You can access your account only by
using the IP address assigned to your Virtual
Host. After your domain name is visible
(propagated) worldwide, you can use your
domain name for account access.
